About Me
My name is Katie Poole, I am an illustrator based in the Midlands, UK. I am a fresh graduate from the BA Illustration course at Falmouth University and had an amazing time there working with my peers to develop our skills
I am seeking to become a full-time freelance illustrator, and make work for younger audiences in the form of animal characters and depictions, though I am keen on exploring a wide variety of topics and tones and don’t restrict myself to any one style or demographic. I am still very much trying out lots of things to see what I like best! Though I tend to find that I enjoy most things that I try out
For me, creating is proving to be a journey of discovering what I like about the natural world, about others, and about myself. It helps me to keep tabs on all of it, and perhaps reflect back to the world what it’s given to me. -And sometimes its just nice to sit down and doodle some silly creatures to make yourself smile :)
My favourite things at the moment to depict and experiment with drawing are: mammals, (particularly cats, dogs, and rodents) humans being silly humans and doing things they like, and playing around with colour mixing. I want to keep pushing interesting colour palettes, character design, and lighting within my art.
I like to reflect aspects of myself that I don’t like within my characters. It helps me to not dislike them as much. And understand more about myself, and other people. The more I learn about other people and how interesting they are, the more I am inspired to create characters with those traits reflected in them.
I should like to think I could help in any way to encourage young creatives to make art, just like I was encouraged as a young, nervous, and awkward (the artist’s standard) child.
If anybody at all sees my work and becomes inspired to create their own art, I would consider that very exciting!
